This has to be a joke
Since when a construction worker will go to a website to check on the statistics and all that information ? Your decision of the winner is the typical mistake everyone does in this industry... a decision made in a office instead of listening what the field needs, from the field. These websites based "education" will be a nice anecdote for the guys who design them , as far a real construction worker using them.....not a realistic situation. Look for what can be use in the real world, not what looks pretty and nice.

I agree Roberto. As a safety coordinator for a construction I'm a little confused by the choice of winners as well. The website I submitted is what I use to train my field guys during our tool box meetings. Very upsetting to see this

And then , when you ask : where is all that money from the government for education ??? In a website somewhere that only the owner knows about it, but hey he got a good check from the big boys for just create it !

Very disappointed with the results.

Not to mention the 2 1/2 day delay in choosing the winners

Hahaha...Wow seriously. I think my app should have won something, but I would have been satisfied if several other legitimate apps that were submitted won. This is a farce. Disgraceful. The grand prize winner looks like something from 10 years ago...No interactivity, tacky design, static garbage.

Mathew I couldn't agree more. As someone said in another post all the winners have a higher"status" makes you wonder not to mention the delays. I felt my entry was worth something- no accidents on my job sites

I agree with all of you, I was shocked and amazed at the garbage apps that won this competition. Sadly, this is not the first time that a hidden agenda resulted in poor judgement.

Very sad Gina. I'm not saying my app was better then the next guy but it definitely met the specified criteria requested unlike the judges choices. Disgusted

Well I think that everyone involved in this competition deserves a fair explanation as to how the winners were determined based on the criteria required to win. My guess is that a Yankee baseball hat will be uploaded with little pieces of paper with the applicants names on them...

I believe the results speak for itself...
- hey Marie which one you like?
- oh the donkey one looks cute !
- donkey it is !
(try to go on the field and tell a real construction worker to relate to the donkey website....and then get ready for a black eye )

On another note- if I was a winner of this and saw so many people unhappy about the decision and calling it a scam I would defend my self. Where are these winners?
roberto vergara • over 13 years ago
where are the organizers ?

I agree. Apparently to have this many people making a big deal of this something is not right

I noticed that many of the apps had a dominant constuction focus which didn't seem to serve the target audience of the Challenge. Consider:
-the Challenge targeted youth ages 13-24
-constuction employment is only 8% of U.S. employment and by law, workers under 18 (or half of the target) are not present in the construction workforce
-only about 0.05% of females ages 18-24 work in construction
-it follows that any app with a dominant constuction focus misses approx. 96% of all males ages 13-24 and almost 100% of target females
I conclude that construction-focused apps have very limited use by 98% of the 13-24 target audience.

Betty in how many job sites you had been present in the last year ?
workers under 18 are not present ???? sure, if you are building LaLaland or funkytown. This is my advice , please google "reality" next time you use your pc.
betty martin • over 13 years ago
Thanks for pointing out the need for a reality-based fact check. I stand corrected. I'm sure there is a small number of illegal, under 18 construction workers in the workforce.
In the event that 8% of all boys ages 13-18 are employed in construction (not too likely), construction-focused apps neglect only 96% of the 13-24 target audience.

You are right Betty. Let's focus on the websites that Majority of workers will use from now on, because they will look at them before they go to work right ?? and use all these fabulous statistics and flowery colors with donkeys to know how to work safe from now on right ?? This awards "neglect"the workers for real solutions.
